A series of soliloquies, dialogues and conversations dedicated to my son, my hero.
We went to
McDonald’s Drive-thru to get large fries for Super A. It’s one of his
favorites.
I always turn off the car aircon when I briefly open car windows to,
say, pay parking fees or in this instance get food from Drive-thru. CFCs (Chlorofluorocarbons) in air conditioning
systems (aerosols, solvents, etc) damage the ozone layer which bring about
climate change and environmental degradation. I don’t mean to sound preachy but
I always remind those close to me about this especially when they leave car windows
open with the air conditioning on or I simply turn off the air con.
Super A: Want this one… (he pointed at the
window)
HOM: What do you want? Thinking
he still might want something from Mc Donald’s
Super A: Want this one… (he shook his head
and still pointing at the window)
HOM: What is it that you want,
nak? (I figured it must be the window) Oh, it’s already closed Super A
Super A began to
cry as we were parking at the basement of a nearby mall with the engine still
running.
HOM: What is it, nak? Please don’t
cry.
As I was about to open the door and
turn off the engine and aircon, I saw the window slightly (but still) open but didn’t
notice because of the rain visor on the side. GEE WHIZ, HOM!
HOM: Sorry nak. Let me close the
window for you.
Then and there,
Super A stopped crying.
He might’ve
cried because he’s used to the routine of me closing windows when the car air
con is on or he might’ve cried because he understood what I’ve been trying to
tell others all along. He might’ve also cried for Mother Nature who got a whiff
of CFCs courtesy of his mother.
And just like
that, Super A saved the day by reminding dingbats like me to always take care
of Mother Nature.
